Identity verification
Documents to verify your identity
When opening an account with Postbank, there are basically two documents that are used to verify your identity:
Firstly you need an identification document of South African Identity Document, for foreign nationals this would be a valid passport or travel document, accompanied by a Visa or any type of valid permit. Please contact your nearest Post Office branch for a list of alternative identity documents that are acceptable and requirements thereof.
Secondly, you may be required to provide proof of your residential address (like a Telkom account or rates bill) which must be addressed to you, reflect the residential address and not older than 3 months. You may not always be required to hand in a proof of residential address right away. Your nearest Post Office branch can be contacted for further guidance and assistance. Postbank is obliged to adhere to the requirements of the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA).
